How Jack’s Kayaks Was Born 

I grew up exploring the marshes and woods of Minnesota, wading through 9 Mile Creek in Bloomington as a child. From my window at just four years old, I watched beavers busy at work, witnessing their slow and steady progress day after day. It was fascinating, magical, and deeply formative—those waters taught me the rhythms of nature before I ever learned to write my own name..

 I learned from the land itself:

 The migrations of geese and ducks as they landed in the marsh.

 The silent patience of turtles basking on logs.

 The shimmering dance of fish beneath the surface, unseen by most but obvious to a kid who spent every free moment outside.

I spent my childhood writing poems about Charles the Beaver, sketching his adventures wherever I went, never realizing that one day, my life would mirror his. Beavers are builders, protectors, community-minded creatures—they sacrifice their own safety, slapping their tails on the water to warn others of danger. Even in college, studying evolutionary biology at UND, I was struck by how much their world mirrored our own—how they taught me the power of resilience, hard work, and selflessness.

 Then, in 2025, something happened. A Reiki Master during a healing session told me she believed my spirit animal is the beaver—and it resonated instantly. Looking at my journey, I realized:

 I have always been drawn to water

 I have always felt a duty to protect and nurture nature

 I have always been building something bigger than myself

Jack’s Kayaks is the culmination of a lifetime spent learning, growing, and understanding the deep connection between humans and water. It’s a way to share the magic of Minnesota’s lakes, rivers, and backwaters with people who, like me, feel the call of the wild.

And so, like the beaver, I’m building something that will last.
